unFrequently Asked Questions
What is this?
This? As in this site? Well this is my blog! I found during university I had stories I wanted to tell about my life and a wanted a place to share my opinion of things.
I listen to a lot of podcasts and find myself thinking, “If I had a podcast this is exactly the sort of situation I’d talk about on it next week.” Unfortunately I am not confident enough or clear enough to record myself talking so instead I write it down here.
Why would people want to read that?
I honestly don’t know. I love travel writing and it’s an ambition of mine to write a book of my travels somewhere, someday.
This site started as a way to progress towards that goal, I enjoyed writing but never did. To start with I wrote daily, then in 2011 this became weekly and now it’s whenever I have something to say.
If it’s just an outlet for me to write then so be it, people keep diaries and this is my version of that. Put out on display just in case anyone’s interested. If anyone is and gets even half a minute of enjoyment out of my musings then that’s great. If you’re not interested in what I have to say then it’s not hard to avoid.
You post “Weekly Blogs” but the date of the blog and date of posting hardly ever match up.
Yes, that is true. In 2010 I tried writing a blog post a day, each time I did this though I’d last about a month then give up.
In 2011 I thought it be more sensible to change to a blog post a week. I thought this would be easier, turns out it’s not. I assumed less content to fill would mean more quality over quantity but it turns out that that’s not true. After leaving university my life has become decidedly more boring and much less interesting stuff is happening.
I want to get back on schedule and start posting on Saturdays again and I don’t want to have missed a week. I want to get to the end of the year with a post for each week. The post dates may seem pointless and broken now but by the end of the year they will satisfy my slight OCD and fulfil the requirement of one post for every week.
I leave the date of posting correct as it shows the actual date of posting.
Why do you review stuff?
I first reviewed stuff as a filler to boring days but they soon appeared to be more popular than the rest of my posts so when I turned weekly I thought I’d make my reviews weekly.
How do you rate stuff?
It’s difficult to give a product a rating (for me out of five stars) but it’s a nice way of ending a review and giving the reader a quick overview of how positive the review is. Each product will be rated on its own merits and I will try and justify the rating in the review.
I don’t claim to be an expert in any of the fields I review, they are just there as a quick way to share my opinion of something, if you have something to say about a review don’t be afraid to leave a comment.
So what is it you do?
I’m between university and work at the moment. Ideally I’d love to work in the visual effects industry for film but I’m not quite ready for that yet. Most jobs I could get at the moment require previous experience, experience I don’t have so the quest for a job is a long and difficult one. I’m sure if you follow this blog I’ll let you know where I end up.
